It reminds me of when my grandmother would make her own skincare remedies with simple ingredients from her kitchen. She had beautiful skin and never spent a dime on cosmetic products!
Whether you're mixing up face masks, lip balms, or organic scrubs, using simple, natural ingredients like avocados, honey, and oats allows you to customize skincare to suit your needs while avoiding the harsh chemicals in many store-bought products.
Plus, you'll save money and reduce waste by crafting effective products right at home – just like my grandma did!
I'll show you how easy it is to get started with your own homemade skincare. You don’t need fancy tools or exotic ingredients (unless you want to—check out the K-Beauty Korean-inspired recipes below! 😉). In fact, many of the most effective skincare ingredients are already in your kitchen. 🍯🥑
You can create face masks, scrubs, and moisturizers using everyday foods like sugar, avocados, honey, oatmeal, and even coffee. Did you know coffee is great for your skin? It’s a fantastic addition to your routine!
Fruits like peaches can also become powerful skincare allies. My peach face mask for sunspots (using mashed or frozen peaches) and coffee mask for puffy eyes are great examples of how these simple ingredients can transform into nutrient-packed treatments.
No need to feel overwhelmed—just start with a simple sugar scrub or a soothing oatmeal mask. As you gain confidence, explore essential oils and other plant-based ingredients for more complex formulas tailored to your unique skin type.
So, c'mon, let me show you how to use them to create personalized natural beauty treatments at home.
Don't know where to start? Here are some examples using everyday kitchen items you can use to create effective skincare treatments.
Choose organic options whenever possible to further boost their benefits for your skin. Plus: Organic farming practices are typically better for the environment.
Let’s dive into some ideas to get you started:
Coconut oil is incredibly versatile! Use it as a moisturizer, makeup remover, or hydrating mask. Great for dry skin, it can also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Just warm it in your hands and apply; or mix it with sugar for a cleansing scrub.
P.S. I find that organic coconut oil smells so much better and has a richer scent!
For dark circles, crepey skin, or puffy eyes, cold-pressed organic almond oil can't be beat! It may not be a kitchen staple yet, but it will be once you try it!
Its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce puffiness making it effective for diminishing under-eye bags. Packed with fatty acids, almond oil nourishes, moisturizes and plumps the skin, helping to smooth out fine lines.
Plus, it has natural lightening effects that can help lessen dark circles, and natural retinol (vitamin A) to boosts collagen and elastin production, which thickens and tightens the skin around your eyes.
To use it, just warm a few drops between your fingers and gently pat the oil under your eyes before bed. Leave it on overnight to let it work its magic while you sleep! 1
Got dull skin? Sugar is a skincare superstar when it comes to achieving glass-like skin! When used in a scrub or mask, it helps slough off dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth.
It also contains AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), which break down the bonds holding dead skin cells together. This can help reduce the depth and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Want to make your own sugar scrub? It’s super simple! Just mix sugar with an oil like olive or coconut oil. For a nice scent, add a few drops of essential oil. You can use white, brown, powdered, cane, or even superfine caster sugar for a more gentler scrub.

These scrubs also boost blood circulation, giving you a natural glow. Just remember to massage gently if you have sensitive skin.
Need oil-free hydration? Honey is a natural humectant, which means it helps keep moisture in your skin.
Plus, organic honey is free from pesticides and additives, making it gentler and more nourishing. It also has antibacterial properties that can help with acne and other issues.
You can use it as a face mask on its own. Just apply a thin layer to clean skin and rinse off after 15-20 minutes. Your skin will feel soft and look brighter. Or try mixing it with yogurt for a soothing mask or oats for a gentle scrub.
Yogurt is great base for face masks. It contains lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and helps smooth an uneven or rough looking complexion. Over time, it can also reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
Plus, the probiotics in contains help balance your skin's microbiome. This is good for fighting acne and other skin issues. It's a win-win!
Simply apply a thin layer to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Then, rinse with cool water. You can mix it with honey or oats for extra benefits.
Aloe vera is known for its soothing properties. While it's great for treating sunburns it can help hydrate and reduce inflammation. You can use it straight from the plant or buy pure aloe gel.
Note: Look for pure 99% organic aloe gel. I also use this as a moisturizer & shampoo for my scalp and hair!
Apply it to your face as a light moisturizer or mix it into other natural skincare treatments Aloe vera can help with acne and may even reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It's gentle enough for most skin types.
Oats are super gentle and great for sensitive skin. They can help soothe irritation and reduce redness. They also have natural cleansing properties.

To use oats, grind them into a fine powder. Then, mix with water to make a paste for a gentle face mask. You can also add them to bath water for a soothing soak.
Oats can help with dry, itchy skin conditions. Plus, they're safe for most people and rarely cause allergic reactions.
Got super dry skin? Shea butter is an ultra-rich, creamy moisturizer loaded with vitamins and fatty acids to nourish and hydrate. It helps reduce inflammation and boosts collagen production. Use it on its own as a moisturizer or blend it into DIY lotion bars and lip balms for extra softness.
For the best benefits, opt for organic or unrefined shea butter. A little goes a long way, so start with small amounts.
Beeswax is key for making balms and lotions. It helps bind ingredients together and provides a pleasing texture. It also forms a protective layer on your skin to lock in moisture.
You can use it to create wonderful lip balms, lotion bars, and salves, and it blends well with various oils and butters. Beeswax is a popular ingredient in many DIY skincare recipes because it's so versatile and has skin loving properties.

Anti-Aging Almond Oil Eye Mask
You'll need:
Mix and apply the to the under-eye area, being careful not to get too close to the eyelid to avoid any oil migrating into your eyes. I leave it on for deep hydration over-night. But if you prefer, you can wipe off any excess after 15-20 minutes.
Note: I use Velona Sweet Almond Oil, as recommended by Dr. Rajani. It's refined, cold-pressed, organic, unscented and not diluted.
Soothing Oat Mask
You'll need:
Mix the ingredients into a paste. Then, apply to clean skin and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. My husband has rosacea which gets worse during the summer. He loves this gentle mask because it helps calm his irritated skin.

Ingredients:
Melt the shea butter, then mix in the other ingredients. Let the mixture cool and whip until fluffy. Apply to your face and neck every night. This cheap homemade moisturizer works great on super dry or chapped skin anywhere on your body. I apply to my hands and then put on a pair of cotton gloves for extra hydration.
Aloe Vera Facial Mask
You'll need:
Blend the ingredients well, then apply to your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 20 minutes, then rinse. It may feel a bit sticky, but this mask really soothes and hydrates at the same time.
